This page presents an overview of our plan for product development in this area.
There’s certainly no shortage of books and videos on how to improve your riding skills. But consider yourself lucky if you’ve found much that helps you achieve the inner strength, training productivity and peak performance in the show ring you need to become all you can be as a competitive rider.
That’s why we’ve made it our mission to rectify this situation. Over the next year or so, we plan to develop several series of training videos that address equestrian performance challenges seldom covered as well as they should be.
Our Core Peak Performance Curriculum
These series ultimately will include the following.
Inner Strength/Winning Attitude
Become an Unstoppable Competitive Rider
This training program will show you how you can improve your self-assuredness, confidence, assertiveness, boldness, resilience and drive. All of these things give you the inner strength you need to take on bigger challenges, overcome difficulties and become all you can be as a rider.
Become a Fearless Rider
A great many riders suffer performance anxiety, and it quite often keeps them from performing their best. This series will help you deal with subconscious fears of failure, success and injury. These include such concerns as getting injured, experiencing embarrassment, feeling bad about yourself, incurring a setback, upsetting someone, or having someone lose interest in you.
Develop a Winning Attitude
Here we’ll focus on helping you conquer self-defeating mindsets, such as pessimism, helplessness and perfectionism. These are the kinds of things that can stop you in your tracks before you ever get to the show ring or so distort your sense of what’s going on that you perform far worse than you should. Our current workbook provides an in-depth treatment of these topics.
Training Productivity
Take Charge of Your Riding
Some people go through life letting things happen to them, whereas others take charge of their lives and put themselves on the fast track to success. These lessons will focus on taking charge of your riding by improving your vision, self-awareness, situational awareness, planning, goal-setting, ability to get yourself into the right situations and ability to make things happen for yourself.
Get Into the Right Barn
Getting into the right show barn is also critically important. This program will teach you what you need to know to make good choices as you advance from one level of competition to the next.
Develop a More Productive Training Style
Every rider has a natural training style, which reflects a combination of innate learning styles and an instinctive self-management style. But it’s important to adapt your approach to training as your circumstances change, especially in terms of how you accommodate to day-to-day challenges.
Develop a Stronger Training Personality
Your personality traits shape how well you perform in the training ring. Here’s where we’ll help you improve your openness, patience, adaptability, discipline, collaboration, intuition and other traits that can accelerate your learning.
Learn These Powerful Training Techniques
There are many ways to make learning new riding skills much easier and faster. Unfortunately, a lot of riders don’t take advantage of them. So we’ll add this program to help you accelerate your progress through each stage of learning, from comprehending a skill to acquiring it, automating it and making sure it’s there for you when you encounter different competitive challenges.
Work Better With Your Instructor
This program will help you do a better job of finding the right instructor, understanding her teaching philosophy and style, adapting to her teaching style and methods, improving your communication and collaboration with her and keeping your relationship operating smoothly.
Work Better With Your Horse
Similarly, this program will help you do a better job of working with your horse. Its lessons focus on helping you broaden your skills, adapt your riding style to what he’s showing you, maintain your composure and work more effectively with him.
Peak Performance
Prepare Your Horse for Peak Performance
Getting a horse properly prepared for competition isn’t always as straightforward as it may seem. For example, even professional trainers over-school or under-school horses prior to shows and classes with surprising regularity. This program will look at the biggest traps to avoid.
Prepare Yourself for Peak Performance
Proper preparation for competition can make a big difference in how well you perform, too. This program will focus on how to improve your goal-setting, readiness confirmation, getting connected to your horse, and physical, mental and emotional preparation for both training sessions and competition.
Take Command of the Show Ring
You’re not going to get far as a competitive rider unless you can establish a commanding presence in the show ring and provide effective leadership to your horse. This set of lessons will help you transform yourself into this kind of rider by improving such things as your charisma, daring, courage, tough-mindedness, determination and decisiveness.
Become a More Focused Competitive Rider
Everybody talks about how important it is to improve focus and concentration in the show ring. The problem is, many riders don’t make good choices when it comes to deciding what it is they should focus on, especially when they’re forced to deal with multiple things at once. This program will help you remedy that, whether you’re a beginning, intermediate or advanced rider.
Improve Your Mental Performance in the Show Ring
There are a variety of personal traits that affect your mental performance during competition. This is where we’ll deal with such things as becoming more self-trusting, self-forgiving, deliberate, vigilant and adaptable.
Keep Your Composure in the Show Ring
Too many riders allow their emotions to compromise their performance. Here we’ll present techniques for dealing with such things as anxiety and fear, insecurity and self-doubt, self-consciousness and embarrassment, excitement, frustration and anger.
In the Meantime
We’ll start working on some of these video training programs next winter. In the meantime, you may want to get a head start on understanding more about developing a winning attitude. Our Conquer Your Self-Defeating Mindsets workbook will get you well on your way.
