Jessie’s passion for competitive riding runs deep and she gets into one of the most successful show barns in the country as a result of transferring to an affiliated school. But when her ultra-competitive trainer, Lisa, discovers she can’t afford to buy a top-flight horse, her budding career seems all but over.

Despite this setback, the strong-willed, sometimes confrontational Jessie embarks on a quest to break into the sport. Along the way, she learns about the hidden motivations that drive Lisa’s ruthless behavior and nonetheless works to earn her respect.

She also beats back challenges from her nemesis, Carrie, and meets Kim, a competing trainer with a more nurturing approach toward her riders. Additionally, she must contend with the ebb and flow of her relationships with other riders, which are sculpted, in part, by Lisa’s manipulations and Carrie’s attempts to undermine her.

Ultimately Jessie must choose between the two trainers. Lisa offers what seems the more certain path to the top, but only if Jessie will compromise her values and treat her friends badly. In contrast, Kim unselfishly helps her build her skills, but can only offer an uncertain future. Drawn to Kim, but afraid of angering Lisa, Jessie engages in an increasingly difficult balancing act to keep her options open.

In the end, a completely unexpected development forces an irreversible choice, and that choice sets Jessie on the path to her dreams.
